1960's Team Yankee - Checkpoint Charlie US Tanks

Team Yankee - Check Point Charlie

Recently I have been painting a lot of plain drab tanks!

They are for my Team Yankee - Check Point Charlie forces. CPC is the Flames of War rules set in the 1960's and 1970's if the Cold War went hot. I already have significant forces for Team Yankee (1980's) and while my Soviets will not require a lot of new models, since I built them as an early 80's force, my US 1980's forces have little to use for the earlier decades. Therefore, I have dove headfirst in painting M48's, M60's and various support vehicles.

To keep this painting momentum up, I set up a little photo shoot of what I've completed. This is the beginning of my US Tank Company equipped with M48's with some supporting M103's. I've completed thirteen M48's and four M103's to make up the bulk of this list.

I used a spotlight from the Centurion kit to make an earlier version.

Here the T-54-1's come!

After looking over these photos I went back and painted stripes on all the M48's barrels and drilled out all the gun barrels. The M48's are directly inspired by the real M48's at the Checkpoint Charlie standoff in 1961.

11th Cav ready to Roll Out!

My 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment for FOW Vietnam is almost ready for action, I'm just working on my last three Sheridans and a few infantry stands for the Blackhorse cavalry platoons. This force painted up very quickly and easily. Unfortunately while several people in the area are working on Vietnam forces, only one has North Vietnamese. Looks like my Sheridans will need to take Shillelagh missiles to help deal with all the Australian armor.

I will reiterate what I've read on several other blogs, and that is the new plastic kits from Battlefront are great! The M113s and Loaches went together beautifully.

The troop is almost complete.

The big nasties.

Platoon one.

HQ ACAV, M113 with two infantry, M106 mortar track and a Scout Section.

Second Platoon, same as 1st platoon but waiting on its tanks.

HQ ACAV's have images on the gunshields to mark them.
